"Queen for a Day" was a game show hosted by Jack Bailey which traded in pathos and bad taste. Consequently, it was hugely successful as both a radio and TV show.. Here are three audio examples and one video sample of the series: http://www.eatlime.com/download.lc?sid=9E7AA996-062A-1F20-8BB4-A08ABFB1F745

I've loaded the programs on a new site called "EatLime." Both uploading and downloading is quick and easy. But the site appears to be a two man operation and I wonder how long it will survive.

Thanks for these, Gary.

They are downloading fine - moving pretty fast - seems the site only lets 2 downloads at a time?

My neighbor's grandmother was on the TV show in the early 60's. He looked around for copies of it, but it turns out that the majority of them were lost in a fire at Jack Bailey's house. Only 2 or 3 TV shows are available.

His grandma wanted to win so that she could go back to Russia for a visit to see family she hadn't seen in years. She lost to a woman who had 5 kids and wanted a washer and dryer.

He thinks it was fixed, to award prizes that the sponsors sold to the winner...

Thanks again!

Chloe:

Thanks so much for the feedback. Eatlime is a site I just discovered today and I'm still learning about it. From what I have seen, you have the choice of downloading files individually or selecting several at once and using the "download selected" button. When I tried the "download selected" it began to download all the selected files as a zip file. I was using Foxfire at the time. You can also select multiple files at once for uploading. Much simpler than the one at a time or 10 at a time approach offered by other free hosting sites.

Believe it or not, there is a three disc collection of "Queen for a Day" TV shows available. The collection is not at the top of my Christmas wish list:
http://www.amazon.com/Queen-Day/dp/B0007UDCB2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1197702156&sr=1-1
I do remember my mother watching "Queen for a Day" when I was a kid. I also remember leaving the room when the show came on.

I see the Download Selected button now - the arrow was too light. When I clicked on the single episodes to download, it held two in que while downloading the other two.

It downloaded at 150kbps. Not bad.

I looked at that 3 disc set of the TV show. It says that there are only 7 known surviving episodes. Unfortunately, his grandma isn't on any of those...

Enjoying the radio show right now. One lady is from the city where I work. Small world.

Thank you for these, airlanes. I remember watching "Queen for a Day" many years ago. I didn't know it was a radio show, though.

Boy does this bring back memories. My mom used to watch the TV show.

I am downloading now and can't wait to watch it.

Gil:

Makes me wonder how different things would have been had I stayed and watched!! Jack Bailey probably has a lot to answer for.

Gary...Wikipedia states that Jack Bailey was an American actor...does anyone know what he acted in? I've never associated him in this type of role.

Gil:

I was only familiar with Bailey from his "Queen for a Day" role. However, a check with Internet Movie Database produces a more varied resume:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0047289/

Gary...it seems mostly relegated to "bit parts"...ala "man standing on street corner", (movie) etc.
